Frequently asked questions

Budget calculator questions

Why does everything convert to monthly?

Income and expenses rarely land on the same schedule — wages might be fortnightly, insurance annual, and groceries weekly. Converting everything to a common monthly figure is the only way to compare them meaningfully.

How accurate are the weekly and fortnightly conversions?

Weekly amounts are multiplied by 4.33 and fortnightly by 2.17, reflecting that there are slightly more than 4 weeks and 2 fortnights in an average month (52 weeks and 26 fortnights per year, divided by 12). Quarterly, 6-monthly and annual conversions are exact.

Can I use this for a single-person budget, not just a household?

Yes — just leave any items that do not apply to you blank. The calculator only totals what you enter.

Does this save my information?

No — everything you enter stays in your browser only and is not sent anywhere or stored. Use Export CSV or Print if you want to keep a copy.

What if my income and expenses roughly balance?

A small surplus is healthy, but if you are consistently right on the line it is worth reviewing which expenses could flex in a tighter month. We are happy to talk through your situation if that would help.

Want a second set of eyes on it?

We can help turn this into a real plan

A budget is only useful if it reflects reality. If the numbers are not adding up the way you would like, we are happy to talk through where the room might be.
